FAQ
What is the best source of Stem Cells from the Body?

The best source of Adult Stem Cells (ASCs) from one’s body is from Adipose Tissue.  There are 3 sources from which stem cells can be derived.  [Back to top]

A Comparison of the 3 Sources:

Bone marrow - About 50,000 ASCs could be harvested at any one time. These mostly become blood cells. Only 1 in 105 cells are mesenchymal stromal stem cells

Peripheral blood - About 10,000 ASCs ccould be harvested at any one time. Approximately 50% of these will become blood cells and 50% will become tissue cells.

Adipose tissue (Fat) - About 10 to 50 million stem cells could be harvested at any one time; 5% will become blood cells while 95% are mesenchymal stromal stem cells which will become tissue cells.

Do you offer Bone Marrow Harvesting?

We do not offer Bone Marrow harvesting as we find the benefits are less than that offered from Adipose Tissue Harvesting. The method of collecting bone marrow transplantation often requires total or spinal anesthesia, and the biggest drawback is the small number of derived mesenchymal cells, approximately 1 in 105 cells.  [Back to top]

How long does the procedure take?

Total Wellness uses a revolutionary new procedure where we extract, and reintroduce the stem cells into the patient all within the same procedure, on the same day and all within the same facility. There is no waiting or culturing done with the autologous cells as we do not wish to change or manipulate the stem cells, but keep them in their natural state until they are reintroduced into the body.  This is in direct contrast to bone marrow extraction, or to other methods which are used by foreign entities. Since we harvest from the most abundant source of stem cells which are located within the patient's own fat cells, we avoid the need to manipulate and multiply these autologous cells, and thus help to ensure their survival.  [Back to top]

What is an Autologous Adipose Stem Cell Procedure?

A small sample of Adipose tissue (fat) is removed from above the Superior Iliac spine (love handles) under a local anesthetic to obtain an estimated 5 million to 7.5 million Autologous Adult Stem Cells (ASCs).

Obtaining ASCs is much easier and less invasive than the bone marrow procedure and uses the patient's own adipose tissue (fat) to harvest stem cells in much larger volumes (up to 1,000 times) than from bone marrow.

Benefits of ASCs: Stem cells play an integral part in wound healing and regeneration of tissue at the cellular level.

Is this procedure a significant improvement on other treatments currently available?

Yes – We can now obtain ASCs from a fat sample. The in-clinic treatment is completed the same day, and there is no need to ship samples to an outside laboratory and wait days for the cells to be returned for an injection on a second visit. This faster process provides increased stem cell counts, without manipulation, up to 400 percent greater than other methods.  [Back to top]

Is an Autologous Adipose Stem Cell Procedure Safe?

Yes…. because the adipose tissue is removed from the one's own body via autologous means, and in a controlled environment, there are no problems with cell rejection or disease transmission. The interview, physical, harvesting, and administering of stem cells are all performed in-house under the physician’s control.  [Back to top]

How do I know if stem cell therapy is right for me?

Discussing treatment options with your physician is an important first step in making a decision regarding stem cell therapy. Potential outcomes, an integrative and comprehensive treatment plan, and financial costs are all factors to consider.  [Back to top]

I have heard Stem Cell Treatments are VERY expensive, can I afford this?

Yes you can!

Due to our Advanced Adult Stem Cell Technology provided in the form of an “in house” procedure, Total Wellness can provide this at a fraction of the cost previously incurred, and better yet, it’s a same day procedure.

Why Choose an Adipose Stem Cell Procedure?

Compared to harvesting from bone marrow, Adipose tissue is easier to get in larger volumes if needed, is less painful, and involves lower risks whilst yielding many more stem cells compared to bone marrow.

There is a much shorter time from extraction to administering treatment using safe in-house procedures. There is no culturing and manipulation requiring days to reach the necessary therapeutic threshold. There are no ethical or moral issues involved in harvesting Autologous Adult Stem Cells.  Adipose tissue is the preferred supply source of adult stem cells now and well into the future.

Are there any Detrimental Side Effects from an Adipose Stem Cell Procedure?

The adipose tissue is extracted from the patient’s own body with no ‘foreign’ donors. Our procedure is performed completely in-house, and our process is performed by Dr. Proefrock. Therefore, there are no deleterious side effects. Please keep in mind that every procedure does have its risks. So, we welcome you to speak with Dr. Proefrock or his staff for more clarification.  [Back to top]

What are the costs?

Consultations and procedures are all done on the same day; the procedure takes approximately 3-4 hours.  The patient will spend most of the time waiting for the cells to be processed.  The cost of the treatment depends on a number of factors, but is usually $6500.  For immediate or emergency treatment, we are seeing patients within 2 weeks: Email us for details

The procedure can be done as needed, with possible intermittent therapy as support.

**Price is subject to change.
